Selection #5 by Bettina Steinbrügge
Bettina Steinbrügge, director of Mudam Luxembourg, curated a selection of artists whose artistic practices encompass a variety of approaches, themes and techniques, spanning from drawings, photographs and sculptures to tapestries, prints and performances.
The curator writes about her selection for TheArtists: «My selection is based on my many years of working with exciting artists. I did not choose according to a theme, nor did I follow a certain artistic medium, nor did I want to fulfill a certain quota. The selection is based on working with and following certain artistic works that for some reason have not yet arrived in the general art market. Probably this art market is also not the right place for these artists, who all often pursue a highly topical transdisciplinary practice and do not allow themselves to be pinned down. They all consistently pursue a specific interest, whether in form or content, work on the continuation of contemporary art and have found convincing forms to describe our contemporary being or to react to it.»
Bettina Steinbrügge is a curator, lecturer, art critic and, from 2022, director of Mudam Luxembourg - . From 2014 to 2021 she was director of the Kunstverein Hamburg and 2019/20 managing director of Kunstmeile Hamburg. Before that, she was senior curator at Belvedere 21 of the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, Vienna, director of the Kunstverein Halle für Kunst in Lüneburg and guest curator at the Kunsthalle Mulhouse. She has taught at the University of Lüneburg and at the HEAD in Geneva. From 2014 to 2022, she was a professor of art theory at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg.
