«This was a text message written to me by a person who works for a big dance institution in Düsseldorf after I was put in an empty hotel during the lockdown with a broken heating system. The institutions in the West have been preaching about care and decolonialism, before really getting to the core of the problems. The work of Affect theory scholars such as Sara Ahmed or Laurent Berlant have been mentioning the importance of emotions in politics. If I cannot have coziness and safety, I cannot properly function. Yet, as an artist, I was expected to create my work, whatever condition I'm in. These lines tell a lot in terms of the exploitation in the field as well.» Göksu Kunak
