The work was made as part of the moving image project Excitement is not Part of my Feeling Repertoire (2021) in which a Neanderthal, living in the now, is searching desperately for a cave in the hope of finding some rest and connecting with her fellow Neanderthals. The printed image of the wall hanging is a collage of cave scans made by the artist herself.
Note on mounting: The work is hung in an open frame.
I approach serious subjects through intentionally serious playfulness as a way to create a direct, emotional contact with its subject matter.
