«In and around Ankara (Middle Anatolia), where I grew up, there's a sort of a funny urban tradition: when you go for a long ride with friends, you'd stop at the road (it could also be a highway, it doesn't matter) and you'd begin dancing to Ankara style music which is called Ankara Havasi ('air of Ankara') and you'd begin dancing. I mean just next to the road. I've done it several times, of course. Rose water is a typical thing to serve to the guests and even use for some deserts. Sunflower seeds are usually seen as what the so-called lazy Eastern (!) would do. It's popular, but at the same time, it's also the object for xenophobic comments.» Göksu Kunak
Part of Side-road pausing box is the work Crane (2021). It is a print on fabric, measuring 70 x 55 cm. It refers to a crane, that has been forgotten in a 35-storey hotel in Ankara Çankaya, literally in the building. It stayed there for 20 years, in one of the most expensive neighborhoods of Ankara. This work is also available by itself (100 x 140 cm).
Please not that 10% of each sale of Göksu Kunak’s works will go to queer sex workers in Turkey (5% from TheArtists’ share and 5% from Kunak’s share).
