Iris is a fictional character created by Maria Guta and Lauren Huret back in 2020. She was first introduced to the public through our short film The Soothsayings of Iris which gave a glimpse into her eccentric existence.

Iris represents the sum of a series of problematic personalities that evolve before our eyes and populate the social media. Among her many interests and professions, Iris is a wellness and technology guru, an entrepreneur, a religious leader, a producer and an influencer, who recently turned to art to heal from a serious burnout. «The Seven Ghosts of Iris» was her first solo exhibition featuring a series of seven paintings - seven visions of her past and future lives.

Guta and Huret worked with the OpenAI software Dall-e and generated over 3,600 images. They eventually selected seven final visuals, printed them on canvas, and then reworked the surface by intervening with oil pastels. What was very interesting for the artists throughout this process was, in a first phase, to challenge the "machine" to “trip” by feeding the AI's "imagination" with their psychedelic texts. In a second phase, they aimed to rework the digitally obtained images in a very analog manner (through painting) and thus re-appropriating these pictures initially generated by a collective human-machine imaginary.

I SCRUTINISE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ONLINE PERSONA AS A STRATEGIC FORM OF BOTH PRIVATE AND PUBLIC IDENTITY.
